Volunteer Opportunities
Imagine yourself as a Rouge Valley Naturalists Volunteer! Join our team and share the fulfillment of bringing nature to urban children and youth. If you have an enthusiasm for nature and love to inspire children and youth about the wonders of the wilderness, then we may have just the volunteering opportunity for you! If you would like to join us please sign up below or contact us.
We need enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers to deliver our outdoor environmental education programs. No experience necessary. We will provide the training. All we ask of our volunteers is they be energetic, outgoing, have good communication skills and most importantly a willingness to learn, work in a team setting – and hike! Most of our programs are held weekday mornings and afternoons, however there may be opportunities for evening and weekend programming as well.
What will you get out of Volunteering ?
Feeling good about your volunteer work: The enjoyment about sharing your passion with young people. The satisfaction of providing opportunities for urban children and youth to experience and learn about their natural world – in many cases, their very first visit to a wilderness area. The opportunity to give back to your community and environment.
Being Part of a Group
Join like-minded people and make some new friends. Join in on fun group hikes, potluck suppers and other get-togethers that our team members enjoy! Having fun while learning about the native plants and animals form fellow team members, and getting in some physical activity and exercise !
What our current volunteers have to say
“Being a volunteer hike leader for the Rouge Valley Naturalists is truly an amazing experience for me. To be the connecting link, at least in part, between kids and nature, I consider a privilege. To work with the other people at the centre and the kids is fun, rewarding and always an interesting experience.”
-Donna H.
“I am thankful to the staff of the Rouge Valley Naturalists for providing excellent training and information. This gives us volunteers not only confidence and knowledge, but also enthusiasm to instill in young minds a love for the outdoors and the world around them- the beautiful forests, rivers, meadows and wildlife.”
- Dorothea C.
