Tips For Green Holidays
The holidays and other events such as birthdays, weddings and showers can be extremely stressful on the environment! Decorations, wrapping paper, greeting cards, dinner parties, and food waste add to the landfill, use extreme amounts of energy, and deplete forests. We shouldn't forget about the environment when celebrating special occasions. Here are some tips we can all use to “green” our holidays.
GIFT WRAPPING AND GIVING
Save and reuse wrapping paper, gift bags and bows.
Try to use recycled paper for wrapping.
Make your own gift bags by decorating large paper bags (can be found at craft stores) using old photos, poems, or any other decoration; you can also make fabric gift bags, and reuse them. Making your own gift bags can add a more personal touch to your gift.
Shop wisely! It is sometimes difficult to give a useful or meaningful gift. We all probably have a section at the bottom of our closets specially designated for those gifts we don't know what to do with! Gift certificates at a favourite store are a great idea for people who are difficult to shop for. Gift registries are another great idea to help make it easy for people to buy gifts.
